Cristel Archambaud is a microbiologist specialising in the study of bacterial pathogens and host interactions. She pursued her education in biology, and obtained a PhD in microbiology from the University Paris VII. During her career, she has worked at the Institut Pasteur and at the Centre d’Immunologie de Marseille-Luminy. Her doctoral and postdoctoral research focused on the mechanisms of bacterial infection and host immune responses, in particular on the pathogens Listeria monocytogenes and Brucella abortus. She was recruited as a senior scientist by the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRAE) in 2012. Over the past decade, Cristel Archambaud’s work has focused on Enterococcus faecalis-host interactions. Her current interest concerns the mechanisms that support E. faecalis intracellular growth, and the role of E. faecalis in the progression of the chronic liver diseases.
