Marie-Pierre Chapot-Chartier is Research Director at INRAE and head of the “Dynamics of bacterial cell walls” team at the Institut MICALIS. After studying physics and chemistry and graduating from ESPCI-Paris, she obtained a PhD in biochemistry at the University of Paris VII and joined INRAE in 1989. Since 1994, she developed expertise in the biochemistry of Gram-positive bacteria cell wall. Her current research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying structural variations in cell wall glycopolymers, notably peptidoglycan, teichoic acids and polysaccharides, in lactic acid bacteria and their role in bacterial adaptation and interactions in various environments such as food fermentation ecosystems or the host gastro-intestinal tract. She has authored 114 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
